PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
NATIONAL FORENSIC CONSULTANTS, INC. — CONSULTANT. Providing expert consulting services based on over 25 years experience in hydraulic and pneumatic design, value analysis, product development and materials engineering including plastics. CONSULTANT: U.S. Treasury Department, U.S. Mint, Washington, DC. and San Francisco, CA. Mr. Matthes managed the engineering development, manufacturing and implementation of automated systems with complete responsibility for production and process control methods. He implemented new large volume, superior surface finish for silver coins and established a continuous flow manufacturing system with a focus on cost reduction and quality assurance. CONSULTANT: Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, Washington, DC. Managed and directed the engineering team which developed standards and procurement specifications, directed manufacture, assembly and test procedures, with ultimate and final approval responsibility. Mr. Matthes designed and developed a new internal engineering program for specifying, maintaining and improving 600 escalator and 200 elevator systems. DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING: Shaw Aero Development, Inc., Naples, FL. Responsibilities included all the planning, organization and management and ensured technical leadership of all product lines within the company. He performed extensive technical marketing and sales and directed the manufacturing and quality control operations, including production and process problem solving. In addition, Mr. Matthes created new fuel tank hardware for Caterpillar Corp. under D.O.T. standards. CHIEF ENGINEER: Mott Metallurgical Corp., Farmington, CT. Responsible for all development, contract design and manufacturing engineering. Mr. Matthes established complete standards for engineering design and procedures and provided powdered metal technology for porous metal filtration media. CHIEF ENGINEER: P/A Industries, Bloomfield, CT. Operationalized all project, product and engineering procedures, partnered with Manufacturing Materials Control and Quality Assurance and designed and developed new D.C. powered traverse spool reel and new fiber optic sensing system, resulting in significant sales increases. SENIOR STAFF ENGINEER: AMF CUNO, Meriden, CT. Responsible for engineering of precision metering pumps from design state through fabrication, assembly and checkout. Mr. Matthes was also the project manager of a new mechanized filter, he designed and supervised tests of new design prototypes and performed significant value and stress analysis. STAFF ENGINEER: Otis Elevator Company, Bloomington, IN. Had complete responsibility for product improvement and cost reduction of escalators. He accomplished a major cost reduction by the redesign and engineering material selections. In addition he coordinated and directed the work of the engineering and technical staff. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER: Otis Elevator Company, Mahwah, NJ. Provided engineering calculations for seven hydraulic power units for new hydraulic line of "valve in tank" machines. He resolved problems in the field and Initiated successful cost reductions. In addition, Mr. Matthes trained others on new lines of machines as well as hydraulic operating principles and completed stress and hydraulic calculations for motor horsepower, control valves, pressure, flow rates and capacities. MECHANICAL CONTRACT ENGINEERING SUPERVISOR: Otis Elevator Company, Mahwah, NJ. Mr. Matthes designed and modified mechanical and hydraulic equipment to suit specific requirements which included layout work and field conditions and he directed the engineers, designers, factory and field personnel to assure proper installation. He developed metric guidelines for metrication of drawings and procedures with military, government and AWS code specifications. SENIOR ENGINEERING PROJECT DESIGNER: Otis Elevator Company, Mahwah, NJ. Mr. Matthes was responsible for the complete design of hydraulic and mechanical equipment.
